Meian

Heldy and howlo!

My name's Meian and my sister and I are here to present you various movies, manga, anime, games, and so on. Please bear in mind that everything I write about any of these is based on my liking, so you're still free to watch, read or play whatever you like. :D

Of course you should know about my liking which also might explain why I like or don't like something that's presented on here before trying to argue with me since I might not like the things you like.

If we're talking about movie genre, I like comedy and horror best, but a good movie can be almost any genre, I know, so I like to watch other genres from time to time, too. Movies that surprise the audience are to my liking, even better when the movie is still based on a certain kind of logic. That sounds like an oxymoron, huh? Hm, maybe it isn't an oxymoron but I'm a moron, or maybe you should try to imagine it like some sort of Slender. It's made clear at the beginning that you'll see Slender Man, that's only logical, but it's unclear when you'll see him. The timing is highly important at movies. Bad synchro or actors who appear to have been "just placed at the set" are really unpleasant. 3D, which has been a huge topic, these past few years isn't any reason for me to talk better or worse about a movie. If the actors and the story are good enough for me, then I don't care about 2D or 3D. Sadly though, I noticed many movies that seem to be merely focused on Special Effects and 3D, while the story is complete nonsense - and not even the funny sort of nonsense, they're just bad. Really people: 3D isn't anything new! I got my first 3D glasses back in the 90's, and even before that 3D movies were released. Honestly, in my humble oppinion, it doesn't even look anywhere close to that "OMG! The shark is so close I could touch it!"-expression people seem to constantly squeal about. Any 2D movie looks closer to reality than those green/red headache-causing images floating in front of you. So, no, I don't praise Avatar for having such "great 3D effects". If I decide to review it, I'll watch the 2D version on DVD and see if the story can live up to the effects. Hah!

I really love manga and anime since it's a great opportunity for artists to mix a wonderful story with incredibly good pictures. It's not just the "big eyes" that were almost significant for anime and manga until the late 80's, but also later ones with a touch of real portrait images (like Vagabond, for example). Each and every manga and anime is a piece of art I truly appreciate, but of course it's not like I love every single one. The style and composition is a huge factor for me to even start reading or watching one. There might be good ones with a "bad" style too, but I can't bear constantly seeing crudely drawn characters, no matter how good the story may be. Call me superficial, but it's just the truth. On the other hand, of course, there are chances that I like the style characters are drawn at, but not the story. That's bitter and if I find that the story doesn't improve, I usually tend to decline the author generally. A good understanding of anatomy is a must for a mangaka, I think. If a mangaka isn't good at writing stories, it's a good option to let someone else write the story. I wouldn't expect an author who can come up with a good story to be as good at drawing as a professional mangaka with a really good drawing style. I don't like characters who seem to be about to fall apart completely, who apparently could only survive with a crippled spine. GAH!

When it comes to games I mostly play RPGs or fighting games. Like movies, I don't prefer a game over another one just because it's 3D. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to games with a highscore (like Singstar, for example) and can't feel at ease until I'm the number one at everything, so I don't play highscore games if I want to relax. Role Playing Games are easier on me and I can focus on other things, like finding ways to kill the characters. Muhahahah!
